MAYSVILLE, Kentucky, U.S.A — The newest version of Carlson Software’s popular in-the-field land surveying software – Carlson SurvCE 5.07 for data collectors and Carlson SurvPC 5.07 for ruggedized tablets and laptops – has just been released.
With Carlson Civil, you’ll get true 3D, easy-to-use 3D, plus, with the updated 3D Flyover in Civil 2015, any surface edits made in CAD are automatically updated in the 3D view.

Support for AutoCAD® 2017 and the upgraded IntelliCAD®8.2 join enhanced Civil and Hydrology features in the just released Carlson Civil 2017 and Carlson Hydrology 2017 modules.
For Carlson Hydrology, in addition to access to lookup rainfall amounts in NOAA Atlas 14, there are new watershed commands operated by grid files for watershed perimeters and runoff tracking, plus the option to draw out sewer lines just as a polyline before converting them in the sewer model. The Utility Network has also been expanded to allow more shapes and utility types - gas, water, communication, storm. “Improved reporting is a focus in Carlson Hydrology 2017 with support for multiple storm events per report and more formatted reports with PDF output,” notes Carlson.
Both Carlson Civil and Hydrology are comprehensive, yet easy-to-master civil engineering software solutions. All Carlson 2017 office software run with AutoCAD® or comes with the built-in IntelliCAD engine. In addition to working with AutoCAD 2017, AutoCAD versions 2010 and up are also supported. The IntelliCAD 8.2 choice offers a CAD platform for no extra expense.
Another top enhancement in Carlson Civil is the ability to create a curb ramp out of 3D polylines - the program adjusts the polylines to fit in the ramp to your specifications. Other top features that are in all Carlson 2017 releases include the Carlson Community for sharing files with other Carlson users; the new “Supersonic” 3D Viewer for loading surfaces that provides excellent graphic presentations; an improved Report Formatter; and a new command for importing MSWord documents and dynamically link them to drawings.
Recently released, IntelliCAD 8.2 includes new support for working natively with .DGN drawing files, a new in-place MText editor, new support for maximizing and minimizing viewports, improved performance when working with complex blocks, automatic paper size setup for new layouts, and more.
Carlson Civil provides the most robust automation and ease-of-use of any civil design solution available today, and it does dynamic updating without a single custom object. Carlson software is provided as a perpetual license with no requirement to update every year—when you purchase Carlson Civil or Hydrology, it is yours. If choosing to update each year, there is a new, convenient maintenance portal for customers -- http://update2.carlsonsw.com/renew/. In addition, Carlson Software provides free technical support, which it has done since its founding in 1983.
Along with Carlson Civil and Hydrology for 2017, Carlson Software is also releasing the 2017 versions of Carlson Survey and Carlson GIS, which together with Civil and Hydrology make up the Carlson Civil Suite. Carlson Point Cloud, Carlson Mining, Carlson Natural Regrade, plus Carlson GeoTech, Carlson CADnet, Carlson Trench, and Carlson Construction (these latter four make up the Takeoff Suite), all featuring their own industry-specific improvements, have also been released.
Carlson Software’s newest edition to the Precision 3D product line, Precision 3D Drill and Blast has just been released.
P3D Drill and Blast is built on a new, faster, interactive 3D engine with enhanced textures, transparency, lighting and rotation.
To begin a design using Drill and Blast, import surface files from XYZ, XML, Carlson’s TIN or point cloud scan sources. This dynamic easy-to-use software creates blasthole patterns from options such as square or staggered, for both mine benching or construction design.
Drill and Blast’s real time feedback allows users to quickly see distances from end walls or highwall face. To ensure a safe distance, highwall face tolerances can be set and color coded warnings will show if the hole is too close or too far from the face.
Other innovations in the software include the ability to:
• Utilize any grid or TIN surface file offered in Carlson’s office software, such as Carlson Civil or Carlson Geology;
• Edit single holes, entire rows or columns for azimuth, dip angle, and depth;
• Simulate blasthole loading with different materials and densities. Calculate and report the volumes for the entire design, including presplitting holes;
• Color and hatch the blastholes based on highwall proximity or loading decks to compare to the surfaces;
• Export final blasthole pattern to Excel or CSV and Carlson Machine Control DRL for GNSS guided drilling;
• Import an “as-drilled” pattern from CSV or DRL file and compare with the design to make sure all blastholes are drilled within a specified tolerance of the design blastholes; and
• Create reports showing pattern layout, graphic PDF maps of the design with labels and transparent textures in 3D.
The choice to use almost every surveying instrument with the same software makes SurvCE unique in the market.
For many surveyors SurvCE on a windows mobile device is first choice. However more and more people are also using SurvPC installed on a Windows based Tablet to benefit from many extras provided by tablets.
Carlson SurvCE is the most popular third party data collection solution - it is available in over 20 languages and has been selected by most of the world’s leading equipment manufacturers. This makes SurvCE the worldwide market standard.
Combined with our free tech support we offer a complete solution - again unique in the market.
In the EMEA we have many customers working with us since 2006. At that time SOKKIA was looking for a substitute for their SDR software. Anyone who worked with the SDR software in the past knows about high expectations. In this case SOKKIA decided to work together with Carlson. This was the beginning of a really successful story. More and more manufacturers decided to use SurvCE as their standard software.
SurvPC as the SurvCE equivalent for Windows based tablets offers the same functionality, but benefits from more power and bigger screens.
Have you ever worked with SurvPC ESRI? You don’t need to have installed any ESRI software package on your tablet. By using the combination of SurvPC and it’s optional ESRI engine it offers some nice benefits. Really big projects can easily be handled, deep coding is also no problem - and you can explore a new dimension of presenting the data on the screen.
In addition to SurvCE and SurvPC Carlson Software offers a lot of other products.
